Mt Finnerty - Iron
The company has entered into a joint venture with iron ore producer Cliffs Natural Resources to explore and develop the project area's iron deposits.
Cliffs has now earned an eighty per cent interest and Reed Resources can now either contribute or revert to a 10% interest free carried up to a decision to mine.
A maiden JORC Code compliant resource (Inferred) of 4.66 Mt (average grade 53.5% Fe) was released in December 2009.
Surface iron enrichment has been confirmed at several locations spread over 35km strike. Results from Cliffs' rock chip sampling from FIN11 range between 56-61% Fe.
An airborne geophysical survey identified a number of palaeochannels with potential for large channel iron deposits. Airborne magnetics indicate potential for concealed iron formations - Riedel structures.
ENVIRONMENT
On 14 May 2007, Western Australia's Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) released EPA Bulletin 1256 advising on recommended measures to protect areas deemed to be of high conservation value in proposed extensions to the Mount Manning Nature Reserve, including that:
- an A Class Nature Reserve to include the highest priority conservation areas be established;
- the precautionary principle be applied in relation to proposals to offset loss of highly habitat specific Banded Iron Formation endemic species through translocation to other sites.
Importantly, the entire Mount Finnerty Project is outside the priority area recommended by the EPA to become an A Class Nature Reserve, and therefore the company expects to be able to continue its exploration of them in accordance with its normal practice of environmental compliance. Reed Resources has completed full fauna and flora surveys on its tenure, and the prospective tenements been endorsed for iron ore under section 111 of the Mining Act.

Drill results from the Mt Finnerty Iron JV
Drilling at the FIN9 prospect (24 holes; 3,364 metres) has confirmed BIF-hosted iron (goethitic) mineralisation over a strike length of about 550 metres. Several of the iron-enriched BIF intercepts include sections with grades in excess of 58% Fe (83% Fe2O3 equivalent), as follows:
| Hole ID | Depth From |
Depth To |
Interval (m) |
Fe (%) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| MFRC063 | 56 | 60 | 4 | 58.19 |
| MFRC069 | 58 | 65 | 7 | 58.39 |
| MFRC073 | 48 | 55 | 7 | 58.53 |
| MFRC076 | 17 | 21 | 4 | 59.76 |
| MFRC077 | 2 | 17 | 15 | 58.80 |
| MFRC077 | 21 | 24 | 3 | 58.57 |

The RC drilling programme targeted extensions to goethitic iron mineralisation in banded iron formations (BIF) at the FIN9, FIN10 and FIN11 prospects. These are three of the more advanced prospects along the NNW-SSE trending central spine of BIFs that traverses the full length of the Mt Finnerty project.

Iron drilling campaign commences at Mt Finnerty
A major drilling campaign has commenced at the Mt Finnerty Iron JV.
Resource definition drilling at FIN's 9 & 10 as well as mineralisation extension drilling at FIN 's 10 & 11 will require around 62 RC holes.
The programme is expected to be completed by late August and results will be released as they become available.

Extensive Drilling Campaign Commences at Mt Finnerty Iron JV
An extensive follow-up drilling campaign to the successful exploratory programme that identified the secondary iron potential at Mt Finnerty has commenced.
Over 560 holes are planned of which around 30% will be targeting the Jaurdi Channel which is located alongside the Perth-Kalgoorlie railway line.
In addition, an RC programme to test extensions of the FIN9, 10 and 11 bedded iron deposits is planned for the December Quarter .
